For more information about the different types of braces we offer and which one is the best choice for you, check out the sections below.

What Kinds Of Braces Are Available?

There are many different ways we can create a new smile, but each method has its own strengths that are more suitable for a specific set of needs or preferences that a patient may have. Even though all our treatment methods lead to the same result of a perfect, healthy smile, the process itself typically lasts between 18 to 24 months, so matching you with your ideal treatment will make the entire process smoother and more comfortable. As you learn more about the different types of braces available, start to consider what is most important to you regarding your orthodontic treatment like price or visual aesthetic, so you can let Dr. Howell know what option you would prefer.

Metal Braces

Colored BracesMetal braces are the quintessential orthodontic treatment method that everyone is typically familiar with. However, before you start imagining yourself with a mouth full of unsightly metal, it’s important to know that those days are a thing of the past. Modern metal braces are much smaller, more comfortable, and more effective than ever before, making them more discreet while remaining a reliable method of achieving that perfect smile. They are made from high-quality and extremely durable stainless steel. Each bracket is bonded to the front of each tooth and then connected by a metal wire called an “archwire”. The brackets and archwire put a small amount of pressure against your teeth, moving them slowly into their new ideal position. Compared to other treatment methods, metal braces are just as effective and very affordable for anyone who wants a new, perfect smile.

Clear Ceramic Braces

Clear Ceramic BracesCeramic braces are a unique take on braces, using the same bracket and archwire methodology as its stainless steel counterpart, they are instead made from a translucent ceramic material to construct the brackets. By using this different material, the brackets become harder to see, since its color blends perfectly with the natural coloration of your teeth. If you’re looking for something more aesthetically appearing for your orthodontic treatment, ceramic braces may be the perfect choice for you. The only downside to clear ceramic braces is their durability, since the material is more fragile compared to the stainless steel used for metal braces, there can be a higher likelihood for damage to the brackets.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign Clear AlignersInvisalign system functions similarly to braces, using small amounts of pressure to move your teeth into a straighter smile, but Invisalign ditches the brackets and wires, favoring a clear, plastic tray that fits comfortably over your teeth. The plastic material is completely translucent, similar to clear braces, but since it fits over your teeth and the lack of an archwire, the aligners are practically invisible. Invisalign is also completely removable, so you can take off the aligners to eat without any restrictions and to clean your teeth without having to thread floss between each bracket. Once you’re done eating or brushing your teeth, just pop them right back in to keep making your teeth straighter. The aligners come in sets, which are worn for about 2 weeks at a time before switching to the next one. The total number of sets needed varies depending on the patient. Invisalign is not right for everyone, so talk to Dr. Howell to determine if you would be a good candidate for Invisalign.
