What does it mean to be board certified?

Beyond completing years of advanced orthodontic training, board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics is a voluntary and highly respected achievement. To become certified, an orthodontist must successfully complete a comprehensive written exam that tests foundational sciences and clinical concepts in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

After passing the written exam, the orthodontist must complete a scenario-based clinical examination that evaluates clinical judgment, treatment planning, and problem-solving skills.
